As Chief Executive, you can expect to play a visible and influential role within the organisation, in the borough and across our region; and it’s essential that you can be effective in all these settings.
You’ll ensure that the organisation has the capacity and expertise to deliver on our current priorities as outlined within our strategic plan. And you’ll work closely with politicians to look beyond 2023 and identify longer term opportunities for the Council and ensure that the organisation continues to respond and adapt to the needs of our residents, and the ongoing financial pressures that apply to all local authorities.
You’ll bring a breadth of perspective that equips you to lead effectively across the full spectrum of our work: regeneration and housing; community engagement and development; leisure and healthy living; climate change; economic growth; heritage and culture; and more. Drawing on the expertise of colleagues and partners, you’ll create a cohesive and complementary strategic approach that makes the most of our resources and delivers positive outcomes on the things that matter most to our residents and businesses. Success in this role will be measured by a lasting legacy for Colchester.
An assured and open leadership style will identify you as a strong candidate – someone who will draw on the contribution of others, but who is also ready to make key decisions. You’ll be able to engage and advise at all levels and be confident in presenting frank and honest views on contentious issues, while managing relationships with tact and professionalism. It’s important that you can bring good commercial awareness to the role, as we continue to diversify and expand the role of the Council and its subsidiaries in order to adapt to a challenging financial environment. Understanding and managing risk effectively will be key to this.
